  • Singing Strings – a youth group from Minnesota.
  • Pinnin Pojat – folk music humorous virtuoso duo.
  • Oren Tikkanen and Al Reko from Michigan and Seattle’s own Northwest Pelimannit.
  • Turun Tuomiokirkon Poikakuoro/Turku Cathedral Choir and Seattle GirlsChoir in a joint youth concert.
  • Kari Vuola, FinnFest’s visiting organist in organ recitals and worship services.
  • Finnairin Laulajat and Seattle Choral Society in concerts of their own.
  • Choral Medley by Emmaus Choir from Vancouver B.C, Portland Singers from Oregon, and Finnish American Singers from Michigan.
  • Festival Chorus consisting of visiting choirs and all interested singers at FinnFest.
  • Classical Medley featuring, among others, Craig Johnson.
  • Timo Väänänen – the foremost kantele player in Finland.
  • Merja Soria and her Suddenly Finnish ensemble from California.
  • Naselle Kantele Players and Seattle’s own Cathy Cushing.
  • Vantaan Voimistelijat, medalists in gymnastics in Finnish Championship games.
  • Kronoby Hornkapell.
  • Seattle-Style Moomin Show.
  • National Costume Show.
  • Dance Workshops.
  • Floorball (sähly) demonstration of Finnish Students vs. Microsoft Finns.
  • Continuous outdoor entertainment.
  • Tori and Exhibits, including a Trade Show of Finnish companies.
  • Closing Extravaganza.

EDUCATIONAL COMPONENT:

  • Virtual Finland – a computer room with today’s technological wings to Finland.
  • Lecturers from both continents on five main themes:
    • Roots
    • Finns in the Northwest
    • The Finnish American Experience
    • Finnish and Finnish American Arts and Culture
    • The Wings on Which We Soar
  • Visual Finland: Finnish Television programs.
  • World premier of a Kalevala-based play Sampo.

FinnFest USA ’99 will enable you to learn about the Finnish heritage and enjoy its current accomplishments. You will see them in arts, music, dance, sports and technology. You will find both Roots and Wings.
