Festival highlights include Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu leading the Seattle Symphony Orchestra in an all-Finnish concert and performances by the foremost kantele player in Finland, Timo Vaananen. Other entertainment includes a tribute to the Finnish Tango, traditional folk music and dancing, Finnish opera and a diversity of choral groups. Lectures by experts from both continents include an impressive program focusing on genealogical research and seminars highlighting the Finnish-American Experience, including Finns of the Northwest. Events such as a dazzling show of Finnish fashions and an exhibit on Finnish technology emphasizes the innovation found in Finnish arts and culture. Children are the focus of many programs including the Salolampi Language Village, a two-day Finnish immersion experience for the 7-15 age group. Seattle-style Moomin Trolls will be in attendance to entrance young FinnFest visitors. The children can also participate in their own Paavo Nurmi Fun Run, listen to storytellers, see videos, and much more. Finland will be the star feature of Virtual Finland.
