Message from the President

of FinnFest USA '99

Now is the time to start planning your trip to Seattle to attend next year’s FinnFest USA ‘99. The dates are July 22 -25, 1999, and the location is the beautiful campus of the University of Washington. Come and enjoy the FinnFest entertainment and education in the setting of blue water, lush greenery and majestic mountains.

The theme of FinnFest USA ‘99 is ""Roots and Wings".". We are placing equal emphasis on the rich Finnish heritage in Finland and the United States, and on today’s Finland, a modern, innovative and advanced country. Through lectures, genealogy, exhibits, crafts, folk music and other entertainment we will offer you many ways of exploring your roots. We will also let you experience the Finnish wings of today, in music, arts, sports and industry. You can be a good Finn, and experience the wings of technology yourself in our Virtual Finland room. After all, Finland has the highest number of internet connections per capita in the whole world!

Seattle has a vibrant Finnish community with many Finnish organizations and activities for people of all ages. This means that we also want to offer FinnFest USA ‘99 programs for all ages and all generations. Your children will find age appropriate activities and entertainment whether they are toddlers or junior high school students. Young adults will have the special treat of being hosted by the University of Washington Finnish students. They will gain an inside look into college life and one of the most flourishing Finnish programs in the United States along with picnics and dance cruises with their own age group.

Our campus facilities are very convenient for those of you who do not want to have to move around a lot. On the other hand, Seattle is the perfect place to explore during the summer months. We are putting together a package of tours for you who would like to use this opportunity to see more of the Emerald city of Seattle, or the rest of the Evergreen State. If your sense of adventure takes you even further, our pre- and post-FinnFest tours will give you the opportunity to go on to Alaska and Canada.

The important thing now is to block the dates of July 22-25, 1999 for a ""Roots and Wings"." experience in Seattle, and to sign up for our mailing list in order to receive your own registration package in early 1999. We are building our own mailing list. If you have not signed up already, please do so by clicking on the Registration section.
